Why a watermark exists

There are two reasons a face-swap tool puts a watermark on its free tier. They look the same on the rendered video, but they mean very different things.

The "free + no watermark" trap

If a tool offers a genuinely free, no-watermark, no-signup face-swap, ask how it pays for the compute. Real face-swap inference costs real money — a 5-second clip at decent quality is multiple cents of GPU time at minimum. "Free + no watermark + no signup" usually means one of:

Data monetization. Your selfie is the product. The clip is free because the model is being trained on (or being fed to advertisers using) your face.
